Don't Call it a Come Back?

Today when I checked my notifications on my phone I noticed a story about one of my favorite NBA players, Rasheed Wallace considering making a return to the league. As an avid fan of Rasheed I think this would be a great move and would give me a team to follow (currently following the Celtics). Wallace is a veteran that could bring some depth to a lot of teams front courts because he is no slouch with his rebounds and points per game. Although I am sure he will not produce in the fashion of his NBA average 14 and 6, he will still be a body that can put up a solid 10 and 5 a night off the bench. Conditioning would be a huge factor for Wallace at this point with his 37 year old body, but reports say he has been working out and is really considering making a return.

Right now the top 3 teams I would like to see go after Rasheed Wallace are the Knicks, Mavericks, and Lakers. Looking at the Knicks I can see Wallace providing a body that can bang and provide some front court rebounding when Amare takes a seat. In Dallas let's be honest Wallace would do wonders for their Front line as a mentor and a body to provide some sort of attitude that is missing out there. Finally with the Lakers Wallace can come off the bench for a Bynum and Gasol giving them some boards, toughness, and attitude. This is just my wish list, but hey who is to say that he will even return to the league, after all it is speculation.

Back in 1997 & 1998 Cash Money had the south on lock with hit after hit and the world was introduced to the likes of Weezy, BG, Juvenile and Turk aka the Hot Boy$. I remeber it like yesterday when my boys and I were passing the Baller Blocking VHS around the neighborhood and my homie Chris saying "Lil' Wayne will be the best rapper alive!" Ah the memories, either way with all the changes and fame this is the Cash Money I remember, call me old haha.

Unless you are still inebriated from one of the many NYE celebrations folks was talking about on twitter I am sure you saw the epic fail that is the Dallas Cowboys last night on NBC. As a devout fan I have been rocking with them since I was in the 3rd grade, but at this point I am really not sure what direction we are going in. We really have all the pieces in the right places on paper, but we have no confidence and I am not sure if that is the players or the coaches fault. Either way we are not playing like the teams from the 90's when we were winning and it SUCKS being a fan. Discrediting the fact that we have had several injuries this year we still should have not been in that position last night, which was on account of those infamous fourth quarter collapses. Sigh!! Jerry as a fan we need some answers. The Cowboys need you to put some fire to ROMO in the way of hopefully drafting or signing a quarterback because he is way too comfortable knowing there is nobody there to take is place. With all that said I am still a loyal fan and like I have been doing for the past few years I will just say "we got this next year!!!"

If you were not under a rock for the past 24 hours then you should know exactly what this Concord hype has brought to the masses. After reading the news reports and seeing the videos posted it is sad to see how bad things can get for something as simple as sneakers. As a fan of sneakers I do buy shoes because that is what I like to spend my money on, but I can honestly say I would never rob, kill, or steal from someone to obtain a pair of sneakers. At the end of the day if I do not have the means to buy them I will not and that was the case in point with the 2011 Concords.

Although I own several pairs of sneakers I can also say that I have never camped out and waited for a pair of sneakers to release. In particular for this release I am actually happy that I did not buy a pair because the hype is just way over done. Through listening to OG sneaker collectors I can now fully understand how they feel about the very game they are or were apart of. Folks are really just buying sneakers to resale them, burn them, and not for the love of just owning a grail. Either way at the end of the day buy what you like and would wear and not what everyone else is hyping up. Simple and plain nobody should be shot, stabbed, killed, or robbed for a pair of sneakers. If you were lucky to snatch a pair up please make sure you are safe when wearing them because folks are apparently crazy these days!!

As I was closing my buildings today I had a moment to check out the Motto (Official Video), which is up there with my favorite tracks on Take Care. I am not really big on music videos now days because they always take away how I feel about the song. True in form this video really just made this song wack to me (although I will still listen haha). Do not get me wrong I am all for expression of self through fashion and culture or what have you, but I find something wrong with Wayne rocking some Lime Green Vageta boots when he is claiming gang affiliation.

Really Wayne first you going to SHOCK the world with the Jeggins at the MTV awards and now this? We all do our things to be different, but this is when taking something to the extreme will go wrong. After the holidays watch how many kids we will see walking around with some Lime Green Vageta boots. Now I am sure you are calling me a hater, but hear me out. Over the past 4 years I have slowly seen weird become the new cool. And no I am not talking about the different weird where you are different because that is who you are, but the weird where folks are doing things for SHOCK value. Stunts like this really lead me to believe that Wayne is doing all of this for show and SHOCK because Wayne has never been someone that I would classify as different in regards to fashion. Whatever though, you watch the video and let me know what you think.

My NBA RANT

As I sit here and watch ESPN and notice one of the side tickers talking about Paul & Howard I only feel like it is appropriate for me to go on a rant. My blog has several types of viewers, but if sports is not your thing this post may not be for you. Lets take a minute to talk about this NBA free agency and movement or mass exodus of "primetime players." At 26 I cannot say that I remember fully the days of Mike, Bird, Isaiah, Magic, etc etc, but I am old enough to know something about LOYALTY. It seems like today there is no LOYALTY to anything anymore and nowhere is this more prevalent than sports, but for this particular post the NBA. Although folks will argue till they are blue in the face about the Lebron and Bosh move to Miami and how great it was for the NBA, I am firm believer that it will ruin the very thing we call competition. Now before you get your britches in a bunch I am in now way judging a man for their decision because for Lebron and Bosh that was the best move in their point of view.

HOWEVER, as a fan, moves such as theirs do no make for GOOD BASKETBALL. Long gone are the days when a player stays with a team to fight and bring a championship to a city that rallies behind them game after game. Today players are looking to opt out as soon as the going gets rough. Now I know you all are going to comment on how Lebron had no help and that is why he decided to move, however lets take a look into that a bit deeper. During the last 5 seasons of Lebron's career with Cleveland he lead his team to the playoffs each season even winning 66 games in the 08-09 season. Looking at this it is evident that he did not have slouches around him because no one man can win 66 games with a bunch a bums on his team, which means clearly Lebron had some help.

Back to my point as a fan and why I started this rant in the first place. Players such as Paul & Howard are now in the position of Lebron & Bosh and even Melo where they can force their hand to be traded or just wait it out for Free Agency. As a fan it is my fear that they will both end up on teams that will become stacked thus creating a less competitive basketball environment. Although having 3 superstars on a team will make for great highlights it will not be as great as many think. Thinking back to when I use to watch basketball as a kid each team had a superstar and that made for good basketball because the talent was spread out. With this new system that players are forcing on teams I am beginning to think some places in small markets may no longer have a team if players continue to jump ship. All in all I probably made no sense, but that is why it is called a rant. I just know if Dwight goes to LA and Chris goes to NYC Orlando (with their new stadium) and NO will both suffer greatly. Think back to Shaq's move from Orlando and how the Hornets failed to fill seats thus making them move to NO (I remember when Davis and Wesley were hooping in the playoffs). Just something to ponder.

If you follow me on twitter then you know I might be the worst Fantasy Football Player in the history of Fantasy Football. Currently I am sitting at a very pretty 1 and 5 with no hopes of getting better or salvaging this season what so ever. I mean come on if I am scoring 56 points who can I really expect to beat? For a majority of the games I have yet to break 100 and I have petitioned my league for a removal of my team and stats from the Fantasy Record books, but no avail. Talk about embarrassing, I have some folks I know who have kids that are 10 and 11 who are playing Fantasy Football better than me. With that being said the struggle is real out here and it leads me to one conclusion #*@K Fantasy Football simply because I am not good at it. In all seriousness I am anxious to see what happens week to week so I will keep you up to date via twitter @erikonasis1313!! Pray for my team.

I know I have been slacking with my posts lately because of work and a variety of other things I have going on. But, I finally have some time and want to put you on to my homie @5thgearChills latest mixtape, Quiet Assassin. As you know we only support good music over here at the blogspot and this is good music. For those who read the blog closely you may have seen me do a post about the homie and his previous project, C3 - cool, calm, & collective a while back. Either way Chills is here again with what can be deemed his best solo project to date. As a homie I have seen the hustle, grind, and the growth through with the music as he perfects his craft. Personally I really enjoy this mixtape and all the anticipation that came with waiting for it. On the tape Chills lived up to what he said he was going to do and that was deliver a project complete with something for everyone. Rough Sketches of a Portrait - SAKZ

As I have some free time at the RCI institute what better way can it be utilized than telling you about the homie @sakz5th latest project. Earlier this week (September 27th), Sakz dropped his long awaited solo debut Rough Sketches of a Portrait. For me this is by far one of the best projects that I have had a chance to listen to in a while. As an avid supporter of Sakz I have been able to see how the tape has come together and the different stages of the process. During his work on this project I have been able to hear the music in three different phases and I have enjoyed being a part of that. From hearing the raw un mixed version of tracks, to the mixed version, to the mixed version with DJ Big Easy's cuts and scratches and OG Nitty's voice overs, this project has been in heavy rotation on my iTunes for a while. Sakz has put together a body of work that tells his story and shows his lyrical abilities with records that will be sure to have your speakers bumping. From start to finish Sakz displays his hunger over original tracks as well as some well know beats. The project as a whole is made up of 21 tracks that will truly give you a detailed look at the talent that is Sakz. This brother has put in a lot of work to produce a quality product and if you love HIP HOP you will appreciate this mixtape. (Rasheed Wallace is second) A few years ago I set out to grab at least one original colorway of each of the signature Penny shoe. At the moment I have the Blue Foams, Orlando Magic 1's, Orlando Magic 2's, Black on Black 4's, & the Silver Half Cents.

I am going after the White & Royal 3's, the Nike Air Flights and the Atlantic Blue 2's to complete my collection. I am still trying to restore those Phoenix Sun 4's too!!

A few months back I posted that I got a title change at my job from Residence Life Coordinator to Assistant Director of Residence Life. I am very please with the title change because it is much more indicative of the work that myself and the staff do here at Lehigh. It is hard to believe that a year has went by so fast and so many changes have happened within that short time. From the title change to the many projects I have my hands in within my first year I am excited to see what is next for me. Check out the new cards with the title change.

If you follow my twitter feed you probably saw my tweets about Dorney Park yesterday. The weather was perfect for the park and there were no lines to wait in surprisingly. I must say it was a good day.

Random! While I was waiting outside the park I was surrounded by a Dominican family. A gentleman who appeared to be the Grandfather approached me and asked what side of the family I was on. I found this funny because people have been telling me that I look like Dominican, I don't see it. Half Dominican Swag for next summer.

I went over to T Russ crib Friday night and had a chance to play with the new pup, Honey. The funny thing about this is that I did not like dogs until I moved to the Bethlehem area. I have even thought about purchasing one for company sake. Go Figure!

One of my residents started a Lehigh Initiative where she is looking to get people to say "HI" to one another when they see each other on campus. Great initiative and much needed. Think about how many times you have walked by someone each day without exchanging a friendly gesture. This t-shirt is just another part of the initiative.

Max Brenner - Philadelphia

While in Philly my colleagues and I checked out Max Brenner which is a chocolate experience. Literally everything in the restaurant is made with or has some type of chocolate in/on it. The story behind Max is that he is/was a writer who had writers block and opened this restaurant, gaining inspiration through chocolate. I am not sure how accurate that is, however feel free to leave a comment to correct me. I ordered the Chocolate Chip Cookie.

The presentation was really good, however I was not impressed with the cookie. However, I may have to go back and try something else in the near future.

I am really considering starting a blog where I go to different places to eat chocolate chip cookies and critique them. Might not be good on the pocket or waist line, but hey it is just a weakness of mine.

Philadelphia X NASPA 2011

A few weeks ago I was in Philly for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Conference. It was a good look when the weather cooperated with us. I had a chance to conduct some professional interviews, network a bit, and attend some very informative sessions.

Looking forward to NASPA 2012 already, which will be in Arizona.
